High numbers of new daily coronavirus infections and deaths have again been reported in the U.S. this Christmas. On Thursday, 192,081 new infections and 2,899 deaths with confirmed coronavirus infection were recorded within one day, according to data released today by Johns Hopkins University (JHU).
The highest levels to date were recorded last week with 249,709 new infections (Dec. 18) and 3,682 deaths (Dec. 16). In total, about 18.6 million people have been confirmed to be infected with the coronavirus in the country of about 330 million people. Since the beginning of the pandemic, more than 329,100 people have died with the pathogen SARS-CoV-2. Measured in absolute numbers, this is more than in any other country in the world.
